20 or 10??

I had always assumed the EQ had 20dB of gain (due to the legend), however, when copying some values over from another EQ, using the shift click readouts, the highest gain amount says "+10dB", thinking about it I have in the past wondered why the gain up full didn't make the frequency stick out immensely like you'd assume 20dB would, I checked it again another EQ and it does "sound" like it's only 10. The EQ on my desk is +/- 15 which is just enough to be too much if that makes sense.

What is the official gain?

cheers

Tom

Re: 20 or 10??

I just noticed this about the v1.9 update, its always been and is officially 20dB,  I'll put an update
up tomorrow to address that - apologies.

Re: 20 or 10??

is it a wrong readout or limited to a lower gain?

great work

Re: 20 or 10??

Just to add to this Gary, I compared the EQ on full whack to the 18dB max boost of the digidesign EQIII which seemed to push the frequencies much more (with the same Q value). It actually seemed to be more similar 10dB of boost. My test wasn't the most controlled but was quite interesting, if that's intriguing to know?

Re: 20 or 10??

Any developments gary? Also I'm still getting the odd unreactive initial click, but it is certainly better.

best, Tom

Just noticed the 1.91 version, but installed it and can't see any changes?

Re: 20 or 10??

oops - The version increment on the site went up before I've added the files - check back in a couple of hours and it'll be there.

Re: 20 or 10??

Gary, today I have been made pretty certain that 1.9 has max gain values of 10dB, I've been doing some mixes and got totally confused, and checked back to a version of 1.8. This is a bit frustrating as I'd been working recently with 1.9 inputting new values, it appears that it halves the values of older EQ settings. As you can imagine it does affect a whole mix quite a bit!

Is this remedied in 1.91? though it's gone back to saying 1.9 now on the page. ? and chance of a notification as soon as this is sorted?

Also I'm concerned about the possibility of a similar thing happening with the compressor, though I haven't noticed anything, can you check?

Regards
Tom

Re: 20 or 10??

A bug did creep into in 1.9 that reduced eq gain to 10dB rather than 20dB.
Only EQ1A was affected and the 1.91 update will be up today to remedy it.

A phase invert switch has also been added in 1.91.
